CIHA HOSTS INAUGURAL VOYAGEURS CUP

05/08/2017

From May 5th-7th, CIHA hosted the inaugural Voyageurs Cup Tournament which featured nine teams and two divisions.
The two divisions of play were Minor Peewee (2005) and Major Novice (2008). The Peewee division had the Maplesoft Hawks, G-Force, St. Lawrence Sting and CIHA Voyaguers. The Novice division had the Rushforth Selects, Ottawa Little Sens, Cumberland Bandits, Myers Snipers, and CIHA Voyageurs. Each team was guaranteed four games and the potential for more depending on seeding. After each game, a Player of the Game would be selected from each team and a prize was handed out. Tournament officials also selected the Top Goalie, Top Defenceman and Top Forward from the 2005 and 2008 division. The Myers Snipers took home first place in the 2008 division after beating the Rushforth Selects 2-0. The Snipers were well rested going into the last game. They finished first after round robin play and received a bye to the finals. CIHA Voygeurs finished first in the 2005 division after beating the St. Lawrence Sting 3-2 in a shootout. CIHA was leading 1-0 halfway through the second when the Sting scored two quick goals to take the lead. CIHA responded almost immediately to tie it up at 2. Overtime would solve nothing and CIHA would outscore the Sting 2-1 in the shootout to preserve the victory. The champions from both divisions received a trophy, while the runner up and champions took home medals for their efforts. A huge thank you to all the volunteers that helped out, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
