CIHA Partcipates in Wounded Warrior Event
04/24/2017On Friday April 21, CIHA had the honour of taking part in the Wounded Warrirors Ice Hockey Challenge, which is a hockey tournament that supports current and retired veterans of the Canadian Military.
The entire day was a success right from the beginning with the opening ceremonies. Each team took to the ice for the national anthem which was played on brass instruments by members of the Armed Forces, and then the ceremonial puck drop by members of the Military and CIHA. The tournament featured six Armed Forces teams, with each of them having a CIHA student as their honourary head coach for the day. Co-coaches Devin Johnson and Tyler St-Onge’s team would prevail in the finals after taking down their opponents led by Coach Jake Jurgeneit. CIHA also played in the showcase game vs the Wounded Warriors Team, who made a furious come to force the game to a shooutout. Neither team would score and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Jeremy Vasquez would get the nod as the MVP for CIHA. Wounded Warriors is a charity organization that honours and supports Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families. It was truly a great experience for our students that participated as they spent the day interacting with well respected leaders of our community. Check out our Facebook page for pictures.
