Congratulations to Jasper Weatherby and Chiwetin Blacksmith, who recently helped their teams win Jr. A Championships in their respective leagues in Canada.
Jasper capped of a memorable season by winning the British Columbia Hockey League’s Championship with the Wenatchee Wild. in November, Jasper committed to North Dakota of the NCAA in Division I. He would then go on to lead the BCHL in scoring and win MVP honours before leading the playoffs in scoring and his team to the league title. He also made the NHL Central Scouting list for the 2018 NHL Draft, ranking 198th among North American Skaters.After falling short last season against the Carleton Place Canadians in the Canada Central Hockey League finals, Chiwetin helped his Ottawa Junior Senators take down the league leading Canadians in just 5 games. He finished with 9 points in 15 playoff games, and had 67 points in 59 games to lead his team in scoring.Teammates at CIHA from 2012-2014. Jasper and Chiwetin will look to reunite on the ice as opponents. They will both play in separate regional qualifying games for a chance to compete against each other in the Royal Bank Cup, which is a tournament for the top Jr. A teams across Canada.
