Congratulations to the U16 Varsity boys who won their division at the Capital Volunteer Cup!

They were the underdogs all the way through but they show perseverance and determination to finish on top!

“We got better as the tournament moved forward and remained calm in high pressure situations,”  said Head Coach, Mark Simon. “Though we still have a lot of room to grow as a team, this was a big step in the right direction.”

In Round Robin action, the team went 1-1-0 on Friday with a 4-1 win over Ottawa Sting and a 2-0 loss to the Stouffville Clippers. On Saturday, the boys went 0-1-1 with a 3-2 loss to the West Carleton Crusaders and a 1-1 tie with the Cumberland Grads.

Their 1-2-1 record was good enough to place them in 3^rd which sent them to the Semi-Finals on Sunday.

They would face the Ottawa Sting, who they beat 4-1 in Round Robin play. This would be a back and forth game with the Sting eventually tying things at 4 late in the game. Overtime would solve nothing so we would head to the shootout where Oshin Kusunoki scored the lone goal and goaltender Myles Henderson shut the door!

Off to the Finals!

They would take on the West Carleton Crusaders who they lost to 3-2 in Round Robin play. The Crusaders went a perfect 4-0 in the Round Robin and received a bye to the Finals.

Down 1-0 with a few minutes to play in the 3^rd period, Oshin Kusunoki would score a powerplay goal to tie the game and we would need overtime!

With the Crusaders on the offense, defenseman Inuki Wilman would break up the rush and join the play going the other way where an Oshin Kusunoki shot would deflect to Inuki deep in the offensive zone. Inuki settled the puck down and sent an absolute rocket, bar-down to secure the gold for the U16 Varsity boys!

U16 Varsity along with U18 Varsity are back in action from November 21^st-23^rd at the Stoney Creek Tournament of Champions in Stoney Creek, Ontario.
