U15S WIN INAUGURAL BULLS BASH TOURNAMENT

10/18/2022

Congratulations to the U15s, who won the first ever Bulls Bash tournament in Edmundston, New Brunswick!
The boys pulled off an improbably come in the finals to secure the championship against the Northern Moose, who they to 5-2 in the round robin.“I feel like the team really came together as a group this tournament,” said Head Coach, Gunner Rivers. “In the finals we were down 3-0 going into the 3rd. The boys were exhausted and feeling a little defeated. The training at CIH Academy helped them realize they had another gear to tap into that most hockey players are unaware of. The boys made the decision to find that extra gear and were rewarded with a huge come win. They deserved to be champions at the end of that game.”  The boys went 2-1-1 in the round robin, followed by a rematch in the semi-finals with the Port City Sharks, who they tied 7-7 earlier. Team Captain Charles Pigeon knew his team needed an edge if they were going to come out of this game with a victory.  “We knew their system and how they were playing but we had to figure out what we were doing wrong,” said Charles. “We went in our room and talked for 45 minutes, and after that everything was clear and we were on the same page. We took advantage with our speed and our forecheck and dominated them in their zone the entire game and won 5-0.”There was only an hour in between the semi-finals and finals, so not a lot of time to rest and recuperate. “The first and second periods were really embarrassing, as we were always stuck in her zone and losing our 1 one 1 battles, and you could see that we were tired and didn’t have any legs,” said the U15 Captain. “Coach gave us a big speech about how all the running we did after school was for this moment. He also said that he knows that we are more than capable of winning this game. We were all pumped up and heading out for the 3rd period.”Down 3-0 in the 3rd period, Wade House-Sam would get his team on the board, and then Hayden Mowatt would make it 3-2 before adding his 2nd with 30 seconds left to tie the game. In overtime, Hayden would complete the hat trick, blasting one in off the post. You can watch the full game and the 3rd period come on our Youtube channel. The U15s will continue with their league schedule before heading to Sudbury for the Big Nickel Tournament from November 3rd-6th.
