SEBRANGO COMMITS TO BOSTON UNIVERSITY
10/20/2017We are extremely proud to announce that our very own Donovan Sebrango (02) has verbally committed to the Boston University Terriers starting in 2020/2021.
The Terriers are a Division I hockey team that plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which is the highest level of college athletics. Donovan joins his Midget White teammate Dylan Peterson who committed to Boston University last year. After much thought and consideration, Donovan felt BU was the right fit for him and likens the School.Hockey.Life. model here at CIHA to a college hockey program.“I chose BU because of the professional atmosphere, and there is no football team so hockey is the main sport. Also, the school side of it is great. If you don’t complete your 6 hours of studying in a week you don’t play. CIHA has prepared me the for the college hockey lifestyle. I’m on the ice every day, I’m in class every day and I’m with the boys every day. It’s the exact same at BU.”A defenseman from Kingston, Ontario, Donovan first came to CIH for the 15/16 season in grade 8. He was originally slated to play on the Varsity squad considering he was a year too young for the Major Bantam team. He quickly proved he was ready to play above his age group, dressing for the majority of the season and putting up 11 points in 29 games. The following season, expectations were high for his true Major Bantam season and Donovan certainly surpassed them. It started with him being named Captain of his team, a no-brainer according to his coach Travis Rycroft. He would end up scoring 29 points in 30 games, good for 1st among defenseman and 9th overall in the league. Donovan would get a taste of Midget AAA, playing in 15 games and scoring 6 points including playoffs.Prior to the start of this season, Donovan attended the Ottawa Junior Senators Junior A training camp, becoming the youngest player to play in a pre-season game. That’s quite the feat for a player with very little experience playing Midget AAA.This year, Donovan is playing a prominent role on the blueline for Midget White, and was recently named assistant captain by his head coach and CIHA Hockey Director Andre Savage.“Donovan is truly a gifted player. The skillset and the mindset that he possesses on the ice is quite impressive for a young man of 15 years old. Donovan is an offensive-defenseman who can play both sides of the puck and he is very cognizant of his body positioning and understanding his responsibilities. When it comes to the physicality of the game, Donovan is also not afraid to utilize his body. What is just as remarkable is Donovan`s level of maturity and work ethic away from the ice. Donovan carries himself in a way that he understands to receive, opportunities there`s a certain commitment that needs to be attained and that mindset has been evident since he was 13 years old when he arrived at CIHA. We are very excited for Donovan and his opportunity with Boston University. While we are all proud of Donovan’s accomplishment, no one is more pleased than his mother, Kim.“Anyone who knows me knows that I am incredibly proud of my son for his determination, skill and work ethic. I believe this commitment came about in large part due to the support, development and care of the entire CIH family. Donovan’s development on and off the ice has been incredible thanks to his CIH teachers, coaches, skating instructors, trainers, supportive teammates, dorm parents, and Mr. Bourdeau who built this amazing facility! The work now continues for Donovan to ensure that his development stays on track to become a proud Boston University Terrier along with Dylan. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and commitment towards Donovan.”
