At CIH Academy, all of our head coaches have considerable experience playing and coaching hockey. From minor hockey to the pros, our coaches have learned to nurture and grow their athletes. Andre Savage

Hockey Director 

With extensive experience in the NHL, AHL, NCAA, DEL Germany, and Swedish Elite league, André brings a wealth of practical knowledge to the CIHA coaching staff. He brings a winning attitude and demonstrates true leadership. His focus on the development and attention to details brings out the best in the young hockey players both on and off the ice.

Alain Raymond

Head Coach 
Head Instructor - CIHA Summer Hockey Camps

Alain Raymond continues to build on his impressive resume as a hockey educator. Prior to joining CIH Academy, Alain worked with the Hull Olympiques and the Team Quebec U-17 Program who finished 4th at the 2001 World Championships. Alain also spent time as the Program Director and Head Coach of a successful Major Midget organization in Chicago. Alain’s playing career has taken him from the CJHL and OHL where he was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 1982 to a lengthy career in Europe where he earned accolades such as capturing a World Championship for the Dutch National Team in 1999.

Ryan Lauzon

Head Coach 

Prior to joining CIHA, Ryan was an Assistant Coach for Ottawa University Men's Hockey Team, a scout for 2 years for the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL and 2 years with Top Draft Sports Management in Ottawa. 
Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective on the game due to his scouting background. His experience will allow him to develop our student-athletes and pinpoint exactly what it takes to make it to the next level.

Nevin Guy

Head Coach

After completing a teaching degree at Queen’s University, Nevin launched into teaching and coaching at the Academy in the Fall of 2021. He believes in guiding student-athletes to develop new and improved skills and habits to excel at the Academy, to be prepared for their next stop in their academic/athletic careers and their lives. Nevin aims to create an inclusive, positive team environment that promotes both individual and team development. He enjoys working with student-athletes and embraces the challenges and rewards that teaching and coaching present.

Gunner Rivers

Head Coach

Gunner, a former goaltender has roots in the area as he played minor hockey in Ottawa and Junior A in the CCHL.

After his hockey career finished, Gunner jumped right into coaching with stops in St. Louis and Sudbury, before coming back home to Ottawa and becoming a Head Instructor at the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs.

Gunner’s experience in different facets of the game will help our student-athletes develop and understand what it takes to make it to the next level.

Bob Hartley

Senior Hockey Advisor

Bob has been our Senior Hockey Advisor since we first opened our doors in 2011. He assists the hockey program, working with our coaches to ensure they are providing the top notch training and development to our student-athletes.

Bob brings over 30 years of coaching experience in the CCHL, QMJHL, NLA, AHL, KHL, NHL, as well as internationally. He provides a wealth of knowledge to pass on to the coaches, staff and student-athletes.

Jason Zhang B.Sc., CAT(C)

Athletic Therapist

Jason is a Certified Athletic Therapist and Sports First Responder. His love of sports and fitness was what inspired him to pursue his current career path. Throughout his career, he has worked with athletes and clients from all walks of life, from the gridiron to the weekend warriors. His passion is studying movement patterns and bridging the gap between how you move and how you want to move. This coupled with manual therapy and an individualized exercise program will elevate your game and quality of life to wherever your finish line is.

Chris Schwarz, B.Sc. Kin. R.Kin

Strength and Conditioning Coach

With over 20 years’ experience working with athletes of all ages and levels of competition and specializing in coaching and rehabilitating elite professional and amateur athletes, Chris is one of the most sought after strength and conditioning coaches in the country. 

Chris oversees all off-ice workouts and gives seminars throughout the year. His staff at Fitquest are here daily to deliver the workouts under Chris' guidance.

  • Registered Kinesiologist and Member of the Ontario Kinesiology Authority (OKA)
  • Former Division 1 Professional Volleyball Player in France and Belgium & CIS Men’s Volleyball ‘All-Canadian’

Evan Lockwood BSc. Exercise Science

Strength and Conditioning Coach (day to day)

Evan graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science from McKendree University in Southern Illinois. Evan uses his competitive drive, and own athletic experiences to help guide athletes on what it takes both mentally and physically to compete and high level of sport competition.

  • Former NCAA D1 Men’s Volleyball & NCAA D2 Men’s Tennis athlete
  • Has experience working with OHL, NHL players, & NCAA athletes in multiple sports
  • Currently working to obtain CSCS certification
