Alum Pavel Gogolev Wins OHL Championship

05/13/2019

Congratulations to alum Pavel Gogolev and his Guelph Storm who defeated the Ottawa 67’s to win the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Championship.
Guelph won the best of 7 series 4-2 after falling behind 2-0. It was a position they were comfortable in after being down 3-1 and 3-0 in the previous two series and coming to win. After a mid-season trade from Peterborough to Guelph, Pavel finished strong in the regular season with 9 points in 8 games and then contributed 10 points while playing in all 24 playoff games.Pavel has seen his stock rise over the course of the regular season and playoffs. On April 15th, NHL Central Scouting released their final rankings for the 2019 Draft where Pavel was listed as #140 among North American Skaters, up from #197 from the January rankings. Last summer, Pavel was invited to the Detroit Red Wings prospect camp and got a taste of pro hockey before continuing his junior career this season.Pavel will continue playing hockey into the month of May as his Guelph Storm will compete for the Memorial Cup, which features the league champions from the OHL, Western Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as well as a host team. The tournament runs from May 17th-26th in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This marks the 3rd year in a row an alumni will play for the Memorial Cup. Marc-Andre Lecouffe and his Acadie-Bathurst Titan won last year, while Gabe Vilardi and his Windsor Spitfires won the year before. We want to wish Pavel the best of luck as he continues to make this season a memorable one!
