After spending part of this hockey season in Sweden, Pavel has signed an American Hockey League contract with the Toronto Marlies.
Pavel was playing with Vasby IK of HockeyAllsvenskan, a tier two professional league in Sweden. He scored 1 goal and 2 assists in 12 games. The Toronto Marlies are affiliated with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL and are set to begin their season as early as Friday.Prior to signing in Sweden, Pavel played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, winning an OHL Championship with Guelph in 2019 and was among the top scorers in the league last year with 45 goals and 96 points before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.During his one season at CIHA in 2015-2016, Pavel led Hockey Eastern Ontario in scoring with 38 goals and played with Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, who was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs and is under contract with them but is currently on loan in the Kontinental Hockey League, Russia’s top league. The pair were also drafted to the OHL by Peterborough in 2016 and played two seasons together before Pavel was traded to Guelph.Pavel went undrafted to the NHL from 2018-2020, but is showing that not getting selected isn’t the end of the line. Pavel has continued to work hard and has proven that he is a legitimate NHL prospect.
