Midget AA Tournament – Halton Hills, Ontario
The Midget AA boys were in Halton Hills for the first tournament of the season and had a great weekend of games and activities, including a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The boys finished with an 0-3-1 record but each game was very close and with a bounce or two their way they could’ve had a 4-0 record, but that’s just been the way the season has started so far. The scores were 1-1 vs Halton Hills, 3-1 vs Ajax Knights, 4-2 vs Flamborough Sabres, and 4-3 vs Southtown Stars. All strong efforts by the boys but not W to show for it.
Nevertheless it was still a great weekend to bond and grow as a team, and better results are definitely on the horizon!
A tough start to the 2nd period would do White as they fell behind and could never catch up. Spencer Beloff scored his team’s lone goal while the team fired 36 shots on goal but could not get anything else by the Ottawa goaltender.
This game was part of the Ottawa Senators AAA Showcase in addition to Green’s league games during the week. Nic Pigeon scored the his team’s lone goal while Rylan Donovan played well but took the loss in goal.
In the first of 3 intra-academy games this one did not disappoint! Midget White would build a 4 goal lead only to watch Green storm back and tie it up early in the 3rd period. Overtime would solve nothing and Artur Zaripov of Green would score the only goal in the shootout to complete the comeback.
Ilnar Fakhrutdinov would pace White with a hat-trick while linemate Andrei Svalov assisted on all 3 of his goals. Green would spread out the offense a bit more with 4 different goal scorers. Shoutout to goaltender Eric Villeneuve of White who was peppered but still made 41 saves.
