Bantam Tournament (Sudbury)
Bright and early on the morning of the 1st, the Bantam’s boarded the team bus for the 6 hour ride to Sudbury. They would arrive mid-afternoon, grab a meal and get prepared for their game that evening.
The boys began their tournament with a 2-1 win over Gloucester on Thursday night, and continued to roll on Friday as they took down OHA 2-1. They would fall 6-3 to the Thunder Bay Kings later that evening, but would still have a very respectable 2-1 record heading into Saturday. In the final round robin game, the boys would face the North Bay Trappers. This game would be tied 2-2 after 3 periods and need overtime. That would solve nothing, so they headed to a shootout. The shootout was tied 1-1 after 5 shooters, so they needed extras. After an incredible 12 extra rounds, North Bay would score and win this game 3-2. The boys would finish 4th place and had a rematch with North Bay in the semi-finals. There would be no score through 2 periods, and North Bay would end up scoring the only goal to take the game.
The boys were battered, bruised and playing with a short bench, but they gave everything they had and should be very proud of their effort over the weekend.
“I am extremely proud of this group of boys and what they accomplished over the weekend. What I am most proud of is that they never gave up, they believed in our system but most importantly they believed in each other and absolutely deserved and earned a spot in the semi-finals. Being the youngest team in the tournament, I couldn't have asked for anything more from these young men and I am indeed a very proud coach.”
Midget Green (5)
Midget Green continues to roll, winning their 5th straight game. Nicolas Pigeon (2g), Nikita Tiatinkin (2g), Colin Callanan (2a), and Brendan Boyce (2a) all had two point efforts in this one.
Midget AA Tournament (Ottawa)
The AA’s were competing in their first tournament of the young season and were up at the crack of dawn to board the bus to Kanata. The boys got off to a great start, crushing the Mississauga Beast 7-2 but would later get shutout 5-0 by the Heartland Dragons. Back at it on Saturday, they would beat Pierrefonds Barracudas 3-2 and then the Richmond Hill Stars 4-2 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals that evening. They would face the Clarington Toros, but fall 5-1 and ending their tournament.
The boys essentially finished in the top 6 out of 16, which is a great accomplishment in its own right, and is definitely something they can build off of as they head back into regular season action.
