Midget Green Falls To Kanata in HEO Championship Game

03/09/2020

Midget Green took on Kanata in the Hockey Eastern Ontario Championship game on Sunday evening but just fell short, losing 6-3.
It was a battle of two of the top teams in HEO as Kanata finished 2nd in the standings while Green finished 4th but only three points separated the teams.Kanata opened the 1st period with a 2-0 lead before Nicolas Pigeon got Green on the board early in the 2nd. The teams would trade goals throughout the rest of the game but Green could never fully capture momentum and take over the game. Green’s top line did all the scoring with Nikita Tiatinkin (2g, 1a) and Slava Melikov (2a) adding to the offense.Green had full support from family, students and staff who attended the game and cheered on their boys, giving them a boost when they needed it. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong end of the scoreboard but the crowd was showed the boys some love as they took their final steps off the ice.Green went on an improbable run in the 2nd half of the season, finishing with a 20-3-1 record over their last 24 games and taking that momentum into the playoffs, going 3-0 before falling in their final game.Like he did in the regular season, Nikita Tiatinkin led the playoffs in scoring with 14 points in just 4 games while Slava Melikov finished 2nd with 11 points in 4 games.Of course, ending the season with a championship is the goal but these boys should be very proud and hold their heads up high for what they accomplished this year as the single best season in CIHA history.
