CIH ACADEMY AT BOB HARTLEY HIGH INTENSITY CAMP ...

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What will the tuition be for 2011-2012?

A. If you would like information on tuition and other fees, please contact us for details.

Q. What about medical insurance for my son or daughter?

A. Each student is required to have comprehensive medical insurance coverage. Please verify that your insurance policy offers coverage in Canada. Alternatively, CIH Academy offers a comprehensive medical insurance plan. Furthermore, as a member of the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association, all CIH Academy players are covered for any hockey-related activities under the Hockey Canada plan.

Q. How do I apply for financial assistance?

A. CIH Academy is pleased to offer financial assistance every year . Our financial assistance is need-based, beginning with partial assistance and it is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning January 1st of each calendar year. For more information, please contact us at registrar@cihacademy.ca.

Q. The website says the CIH Academy is a registered charity. What does that mean?

A. The entire project is owned and operated as a not-for-profit entity. Simply put, this means that CIH Academy is not concerned with making profits but rather with putting students first. While most private schools have built-in profit margins in their rates, CIH Academy operates on a cost-recovery model. In the event of a surplus, it must be reinvested in the Campus through infrastructure renewal and financial assistance for students.

Q. What if my son or daughter requires medical attention?

A. A. In the event of an injury or illness, students will have access to the Clarence-Rockland Family Health Centre which is located 1km down the street and an infirmary on campus consisting of offices, beds, and all the facilities necessary to treat and isolate sick students. There will also be a registered nurse dedicated to the campus who will be on call in case of health issues. For more serious health concerns, the region has exceptional medical facilities in nearby Ottawa.

Q. Will the Campus be safe?

A. Yes. The Campus will be safely secured by student-only electronic access and well-lit pedestrian walkways at night. Each of our student residences will have a "House Parent" on duty every evening and all day on the weekends. Ensuring your child's safety is our top priority.

Q. How are students occupied over the weekend?

A. There will never be a shortage of things to do for CIH Academy students. If they are not at a weekend tournament, they will be brushing up on their studies or partaking in an organized activity. With so much to do and places to visit in the Nation's Capital, Ottawa, activities will sometimes be educational (such as visiting Parliament Hill, national museums, historic sites, or attending events) or simply fun (such as skating on the world's longest outdoor skating rink, the Rideau Canal, or hiking in the region's jewel, Gatineau Park).

Q. Will there be a dress code at CIH Academy?

A. Yes. For all school activities (classes, school trips, assemblies, and home games), boys will wear dress pants and collared golf shirts while girls will wear dress pants or skirts (no shorter than 2 inches above the knee) and collared golf shirts or blouses. For away games, students wear track suits with team jackets. Casual clothes are permitted in student residences.

Q. How is discipline handled at CIH Academy?

A. With respect to discipline during school hours, please refer to the CIH Academy discipline document. Where the discipline document refers to advising the parent, the teacher would contact the student's Academic Advisor, who would in turn contact the student's parents. We at CIH Academy believe in open communication. To that end, the Academic Advisor will communicate with teachers on an ongoing basis and will also monitor academic work.

Q. How can I keep track of my child's progress?

A. Parents of students enrolled at CIH Academy will have access to special password-protected intranet site for games and practice schedules, exam schedules, excursion information and other updates. Monthly academic and hockey progress reports will be emailed to parents regarding your child's progress. And of course, you may speak to the Dean at any time during your student's enrolment.

Q. As a parent, is there anything else I should know?

A. CIH Academy welcomes any questions or concerns you may have. Please contact us any time at info@cihacademy.com or 1-877-CIH-9199 and we will direct your concern to the appropriate person who will contact you directly.
